This page sets out a plan for selecting your photographer

    1. Do some homework. Your album is one of the few things that remain long after your wedding day has come and gone. Also your photographer will spend a lot of time with you so you should make sure you feel comfortable with him/her. Web sites and magazines are a good source of information.
    2. Work out your budget. Money is always tight at wedding time. However do try and allocate a reasonable amount of money especially if you are looking for all day coverage
    3. Think about the kind of photography you want. Find out what styles are available, and what kind of genres there are. Discover what you like and don't like and let your photographer know that you have thought about this.
    4. Learn a little about wedding photography. You don't need to become an expert but knowing a little bit about what makes a good photograph will help you sort out the wheat from the chaff.
    5. Book well in advance. The good guys always go first, so make sure you are booking your photographer early especially if you are getting married in the Summer.
    6. Go professional. I know, I would say that wouldn't I, but asking a family friend to do the honours is fraught with all sorts of risk and quality issues. You literally only get one shot at wedding photography and so it's best not to leave this in the hands of an amateur. Hire a professional wedding photographer.
    7. Meet before engaging. Meeting with your wedding photographer will tell you more about the kind of person than any website. So if at all possible do meet with your photographer.
    8. Enjoy your wedding photography. It's surprising the number of people who hate being photographed, but on your wedding day you should have no fears and be relaxed so that your photography reflects the true joy of your special day. Many photographers do a pre shoot to help you get relaxed.
    9. Help your wedding photographer. This is a two way street. Your photographer will have lots of experience and will offer lots of advice. Listen to the voice of experience to ensure you get the best from your wedding photography.
    10. Take time to pick a great wedding album. Firstly make sure you get an album rather than just digital images otherwise your photographs stand a good chance of never seeing the light of day. Then use your wedding photographer's knowledge to produce something that you will be proud of and will last many years. Getting a good album is similar to getting your wedding day hair do. It's best left to the professional.
